The 2U 12-bay or 3U 16-bay SecurStor Astra ES is available as both a RAID header and as expansion JBOD modules. As the RAID header, SecurStor Astra ES can support up to (4) JBODs and have field upgradable single or dual controllers. The host interfaces for the RAID header consist of 4Gb Fibre Channel or 3Gb SAS, with two host ports on single controller RAID heads and four host ports on dual controller RAID heads.
The drive bays support both SAS and SATA disk drives (mix and match at will!) in the same physical enclosure.
SAS and SATA in one box!:
With SecurStor Astra ES you decide how the 12-bays or 16-bays are populated either with SATA hard drives or with SAS hard drives, or both, depending on your exact needs. For instance, in the 12-bay model create a (4) disk RAID 10 array using SAS drives for that ultra high performance application or demanding database, and then create a separate (8) disk RAID 6 array using SATA drives for your mainstream storage requirements.
Mixing and matching SAS and SATA disks in the same physical enclosure is simple, but you’ll want to keep each RAID array confined to the same class drives.

 Eliminate fork-lift upgrades:
With the SecurStor Astra ES never again will a fork-lift upgrade be required. Designed with modular capabilities, you can upgrade from single-controller to dual-controller, change host interfaces between SAS and Fibre Channel, change drive interfaces between SAS and SATA, and expand to additional JBOD units adding up to 80TB of capacity.
The modular design also minimizes headaches should you choose to stick a cold spare part on the shelf for emergencies: all the power supply units, auxiliary cooling fans, and hard disk drive canisters are interchangeable between all models within the Astra ES series.
